Therapy for Women in Midlife
You're overwhelmed, exhausted, and don't know how much longer you can keep doing this.
Expert help in Atlanta and throughout Georgia for women drowning in midlife—the demands, the changes, the loss of yourself.
You’re Not Alone
Maybe you're struggling with:
Empty nest now that your kids are grown or leaving
Gray divorce or realizing your marriage isn't working anymore
Menopause symptoms your doctor brushes off—anxiety, brain fog, insomnia, weight gain
Burnout from decades of being everything to everyone
Loneliness because friendships faded while you were busy taking care of everyone else
Loss of identity—you don't know who you are without all those roles
You might be asking yourself: "Is this all there is? Is this what I worked so hard for? Where did I go?"
You're feeling the pressure of lost time, lost dreams, lost plans. And you're wondering if it's too late to become who you were meant to be.
It's not too late. And you don't have to figure this out alone.
You've Tried Talk Therapy. It Didn't Go Deep Enough.
Many women come to me after years of traditional talk therapy that gave them insight but didn't create real change.
They understood why they felt stuck—but they still felt stuck.
They talked about their feelings—but couldn't actually feel them.
They knew what they should do—but couldn’t make the changes.
Here's what's different about my approach:
I work with your body, not just your mind. Trauma, stress, and decades of suppressing your needs don't just live in your thoughts—they live in your nervous system, your muscles, your breath, your gut.
We use somatic therapy, depth psychology, and neuroscience-backed approaches to help you:
Regulate your overwhelmed nervous system so you can actually rest
Release emotions you've been carrying for decades
Reconnect with your body as a source of wisdom instead of something to control
Reclaim your voice, boundaries, dreams, desires, and authentic self
Find clarity about what you actually want for this next chapter
This isn't about analyzing your childhood for years. It's about creating real, felt shifts in how you experience yourself and your life.

What to Expect in Therapy with Me
We start where you are: Overwhelmed, exhausted, maybe not even sure what you need—just knowing something has to change.
We work with your body: Through somatic practices, breathwork, grounding techniques, and gentle movement, we help your nervous system feel safe enough to rest and heal.
We go beneath the surface: Using depth psychology and expressive approaches (writing, art, movement, imagery), we explore what's been hidden or suppressed—grief, anger, dreams, desires, your authentic self.
We create real change: Not just insight, but actual shifts in how you feel in your body, how you show up in relationships, how you make decisions, and how you move through your life.
Sessions are grounded, experiential, and deeply supportive. We slow down, connect with what your body and inner world are holding, and make meaning of what emerges.
Clients describe the work as clarifying, transformative, and unlike any therapy they've done before.
Hi, I'm Sara Anderson.
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 25 years of experience helping women navigate midlife transitions.
I specialize in somatic therapy, depth psychology, expressive interventions, and neuroscience-backed approaches that create real, lasting change—not just insight, but actual relief and transformation.
I chose this work because I understand how isolating and disorienting midlife can be for women. The roles that defined you are shifting. Your body is changing in ways you can't control. Time feels urgent in a way it never did before.
You deserve support from someone who truly gets it—and who has the expertise to help you find your way through.
How It Works
We meet virtually: I see all clients through secure, HIPAA-compliant video sessions. You can work with me from anywhere in Georgia—in the comfort and privacy of your own space.
Sessions are 75 minutes: Unlike traditional 50-minute therapy sessions, I see clients for 75 minutes. This gives us time to check in, explore what's emerging, engage in creative or expressive work, include somatic practices, and then debrief and integrate. The longer session allows for a natural ritual that grounds our depth work—you won't feel rushed or hurried. There's space to actually go somewhere meaningful.
We meet regularly: Most clients see me weekly, especially in the beginning. I've found over the years that weekly sessions for at least the first 90 days create the consistency and momentum needed for real progress. When we only meet every other week early on, there isn't enough continuity—we lose traction and end up re-establishing ground rather than building on it.
Your nervous system needs repetition and rhythm to feel safe enough to shift. Weekly sessions provide that container.
After about three months, we'll assess together what frequency feels right moving forward—some clients stay weekly, others shift to bi-weekly once the foundation is strong.
Everything is customized to you: There's no one-size-fits-all approach here. I meet you exactly where you are and tailor our work to your specific needs, pace, and goals.
We build the foundation first: In our first few sessions, we focus on getting to know one another and building initial skills that create immediate relief—things like Havening Techniques for self-soothing, nervous system regulation practices, grounding tools, and identifying "glimmers" (small moments of joy or safety your body can anchor to). These become the foundation that makes the deeper work possible.
Relief comes quickly, transformation takes time: Most clients experience some relief after just a few sessions—better sleep, less anxiety, feeling more grounded. But they stay for the deeper work because that's where real transformation happens. This is where we address the grief, the conditioning, the loss of self, the patterns that have kept you stuck—and help you reclaim who you actually are.

I don't accept insurance. Insurance companies don't support the 75-minute session format or the somatic, depth-oriented approach that I've found creates real, lasting transformation for my clients.
Insurance is designed for brief, symptom-focused treatment—not the kind of deep, sustained work that addresses what your body and psyche have been carrying for decades. By staying out of the insurance system, I can offer you the time, creativity, and approach that actually works without restrictive insurance protocols dictating our work.
However: I provide detailed superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many clients also use HSA or FSA funds to pay for sessions.

This type of work—somatic therapy, depth work, expressive practices—needs time and space. In 75 minutes, we can check in, go deep, engage in body-based or creative work, and then integrate and debrief without feeling rushed.
The longer format allows for the natural ritual and pacing that makes transformation possible. You won't be watching the clock or feeling like we have to stop just as something important is opening up. There's room to actually breathe, feel, and process.
-
Yes, all of my sessions are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant video. I'm licensed throughout Georgia and can see clients anywhere in the state.

Many of my clients come after traditional talk therapy didn't create the lasting change they needed. Somatic therapy works differently—we address what your body has been carrying and storing, not just what your mind understands.
If previous therapy gave you insight but didn't create felt shifts in how you actually experience your life, this approach will be different.
-
If you're struggling, you're struggling enough. You don't have to wait until you're in crisis to get support. In fact, reaching out now—when you're overwhelmed but still functioning—often means the work can go deeper because you have more capacity to engage with it.
-
This varies for each person. Some clients work with me for a few months during an acute transition (divorce, empty nest, career change). Others stay for a year or more to do the deeper transformational work of reclaiming themselves.
We'll talk about your goals in our consultation and check in regularly about how the work is serving you.
-
Yes, I do. Therapy intensives are custom-designed and priced individually based on your specific needs and goals. Investment typically starts at $3,500.

Investment in Your Care:
Session fees range from $250-$350 depending on service type and session length. Most clients meet weekly or bi-weekly. Based on weekly sessions (accounting for holidays, illness, and vacation), the approximate annual investment is $9,600-$16,800 (roughly 48 sessions per year).
I maintain a private pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. This allows for greater privacy, flexibility in treatment approach, and freedom from diagnosis-driven limitations. I'm happy to provide documentation (superbills) that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement, though I cannot guarantee coverage and I do not communicate directly with insurance companies. I accept all major credit cards, HSA cards, and wire transfer. Payment is expected prior to or at the time of each session.

As a Georgia Licensed Professional Counselor, I provide psychotherapy services to clients residing in Georgia who are seeking treatment for mental health concerns. Psychotherapy addresses clinical issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and other psychological conditions. For clients seeking support with life transitions, goal-setting, or professional development without mental health treatment needs, I also offer coaching and consulting services (available nationwide). We'll determine the most appropriate service during our consultation.
